Registering a Foreign domain (IDN or International Domain Name) Print

It's possible now to register foreign character domains as .com or .net, they are called International Domain Names or IDN's

For example, you may want to register a domain in the Korean language like 미국이민변호사.com, this is now possible to do, but it takes a bit more work.

The first thing you need to do is find the PUNYCODE of the characters.  The PUNYCODE is the code that the WhoIs service uses to translate the characters and send them to the appropriate DNS entries.

To determine the PNUYCODE for a set of characters, go to this website http://mct.verisign-grs.com/index.shtml and enter the characters you want to register in the box.

Click the OK button and you will see a few different items show up.  In the bottom cell of the table you will see the PUNYCODE listed.  It will look something like xn--3e0bu9yna89ep7ls7lc5z.com

That code is the domain name that we need to register.

Enter that into the domain search and register it as you would any other domain.  Once submitted, there are configurations that need to be completed with the registrar, so once submitted please send an email to help@stbhosting.com indicating that you would like to register an IDN.  You will need to supply the language of the domain that you are trying to register.  In our example, the language is Korean.  STBHosting wil receive the help ticket and complete the registration of your domain as quickly as possible after receiving the ticket.

If you have any questions about this process, please don't hesitate to contact us at help@stbhosting.com or by opening a support ticket within your client portal.
